Those without extensive knowledge of modern Greek history and politics (like myself) may find it doesn’t do enough to explain the man or his era to international audiences. But it’s an effective tribute-introduction nonetheless.

Recommend for anyone remotely familiar with Stelios Kazantzakis, you'll enjoy it. Even if not, there are plenty of interesting thoughts about the pros and cons of being essentially a pop icon. And also just life lessons in general - how it's all really a matter of perspective.

This is a splendid biopic the storyline did seem very familiar to that of some other films in this genre, e.g., "Zohar", the biopic of the singer Zohar Mizrahi. That would only make sense, though, because so many famous musicians (and artists in general) have had such similar, bittersweet, yet very unique and exciting, life-experiences! Stelios Kazantzidis was a wonderful and popular musician, but this film made it clear that his folky zest, much of which came from his childhood upbringing, never left his work, no matter what!
