Heather Hogan Autostraddle When I started watching this series, I never would have dreamed of comparing it to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but here we are. Oct 29, 2021 Full Review Caroline Framke Variety Steven Universe: The Movie is as much an ode to the value of growing and changing as it is a celebration of the series. Aug 28, 2019 Full Review Courtney Lanning Arkansas Democrat-Gazette This movie takes all the great moments a 160-episode series has created in 11-minute chunks and mixes them all together reaching new heights in a full-length film. Feb 26, 2020 Full Review Jon Espino The Young Folks Everything in Steven Universe: The Movie will seem familiar, but only because that's the film's entire purpose. There is a newfound maturity that the show promises with this film; a glimpse into the new direction the show will take when it returns. Rated: 8/10 Sep 16, 2019 Full Review Carl Broughton Film School Rejects A 90-minute love letter to the medium of animation and a great introduction to newcomers as to what makes 'Steven Universe' so special. Sep 10, 2019 Full Review Palmer Haasch Polygon While this isn't the last we'll see of the Crystal Gems, it's hard to imagine any better closure. Sep 3, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Yuri B Not sure I like the voice change, but I get that he's gotten older. But this wasn't bad. Still will miss the show though. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/22/25 Full Review Harvey L This was one of the worst movies I’ve ever watched. It felt nothing like Steven Universe in any sense. Honestly, it reminded me more of Hazbin Hotel. The art, although not terrible, wasn't the usual Steven Universe style, and it felt plastic. It didn’t look like it was worked hard on—it almost felt AI-generated. The corniness and cringiness were so thick it gave me the ick. The only redeeming quality was Spinel’s portrayal of PTSD. I genuinely liked her story, and she was the only part of the movie I genuinely enjoyed. The songs, while Steven Universe typically has great ones, had maybe three bangers in the movie (which honestly I do listen to repeat). The rest were rushed and lack rhythm. The plot didn’t make sense at times, and I had to stop and rethink if the movie was even worth it. If you like it, that’s fine, but if you’re expecting Steven Universe, you won’t get that here... Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/21/25 Full Review Byron R It's a good movie to watch with the family. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/18/25 Full Review Shark P Because kids stuff is a problem of this show because it doesn’t show violence and action so kids can watch it not me Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/03/25 Full Review Shark P Because it has no violence on this movie I want more but is ended of the show is horrible and lame skip it ! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/25 Full Review Kevin P A solid sequel and epilogue to the show with many great callbacks and analysis of all the progress the main characters have made over the course of the series. Spinel is a standout and easily steals the show. The music is very catchy and the film is warmly colorful with a slightly elevated budget. The pink diamond backstory reveal is shocking, even if it does paint her in a bad light after the series finale seem to have a more nuanced final say on her character. I also wish some of side characters like Lapis or Peridot had more to do (seriously, they have like nothing to do and barely get any lines). The amnesia plot is admittedly kind of cliche by this point, but the movie does a solid job with the execution that leads to so many memorable characters moments and musical numbers (special shout outs to "True Kinda Love", "Drift Away", and especially "Other Friends". It isn't amazing, but it's a solid continuation of the show and a good flash-forward transition into the epilogue series of "Steven Universe Future".
