Janice Page Boston Globe This one hits home in places, but overall it begs for a lighter touch. Mar 24, 2006 Full Review Kelly Vance East Bay Express For all its rough immediacy and cool tone, Stolen Life is nothing more or less than an old-fashioned class-antagonism melodrama. May 5, 2010 Full Review Don Willmott Filmcritic.com Powerful stuff. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 9, 2007 Full Review Prairie Miller Long Island Press The filmmaker takes stock with brutal candor of the traumatic turn of events in new market economy China, as the national social support system in place is increasingly dismantled for the sake of foreign greed and profit. Jul 4, 2007 Full Review Jeffrey M. Anderson Combustible Celluloid It's to director Li's credit that she tells the story as plainly and unobtrusively as possible. s r A melodrama with Chinese sentiment. I felt it was unfeasible. Saw it on TCM. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review vin w Yeah, this movie was lame.Way overrated by the critics by the way.The movie is a bore. It's melodrama but,not the enjoyable type. The movie telegraphs every point it wants to make and then hammers it home just in case you weren't paying attention.Overwrought and overblown to say the least. It reminded me of a typical Lifetime flick. That bad.Zhou Xun is fine but Jun Wu did little but slouch and smoke cigarettes the entire movie.Still this is some people's idea of fun i suppose... Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/04/20 Full Review Audience Member one of the deepest lessons ive learned from a movie Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member very sad story. almost felt similar to lilja 4-ever. the end felt rushed but overall great and the acting was excellent. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie was brilliant ! I had it in my que on Netflix and had bypassed it a few times ... I am usually drawn to foreign films and this was more then I expected ! I definitely have to add this lil gem to my collection of films. If I had to grade this movie it gets an A I LOVE IT AND WILL WATCH IT AGAIN TONIGHT! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie shows us the life of peasant people in a Chinese city but it could happen in any other city's poor and underground neighborhood. The story is narrated by Yanni who is a girl that was raised by her grandmother and her aunt in an extreme affection-less world that shaped her low self-stime. Finally, she had the chance for a new life, and she went to college but since the first day she gets involved with a stranger, Muyu, who seems to care about her but he doesn't care about his wife and child. So, he abandons them to be with Yanni who is pregnant. Worth watching! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews
