John F STONE BROS' is a unique Australian film that combines the best of Aboriginal humour with a classical Aussie road trip. Great acting, direction and locations combine with a killer soundtrack. A rough jewel from the Australian outback. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/10/23 Full Review Audience Member Very lame, even by low stoner / road-trip movie standards. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member This film can be looked at in two ways... A serious dramady trying to push home some harsh truths around race in Aus.... or a stoner comedy/road trip... Either way it fails at both. It needs to be re-shot as one or the other. as it stand it seems like a cheap cheech and chong rip off. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Watch "Road Trip" or "Sex Drive" if you like a really good, funny "road" movie. This flick is just silly, stupid, frankly unfunny, and really utter nonsense. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member For a marijuana movie, it is low key and short on the pot humor (which is fine). Come to find out, STONE doesn't have so much to do with MJ (good). They're on a modern walkabout and we find out about the Australian culture (voodoo, transgenders, loose women, police, and attitudes toward blacks... even BY blacks). A bit slow in parts. But there is a story here. Changed my understanding of the outback. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a mish mash and seem to tries to be 'Priscilla' in some ways but doesn't hit the right chord. I felt the racial and spiritual aspects of the film were overplayed with little depth and lacked poignancy. It didn't play the sociopathic card well enough in an ironic way (aka Beavis and Butthead) so feel all of the things it could be it wasn't. I guess ultimately I was cheering for a film from an Aboriginal perspective that would make me laugh, take me on a journey and leave me thinking.... maybe next time Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Jim Schembri The Age (Australia) Frankland's attempt at a broad stoner comedy misses the mark in so many ways the film almost qualifies as a tragedy. Rated: 1/5 Sep 24, 2009 Full Review Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald While the ebullient burst of rough-and-ready slapstick which delivers the message is far from a comic masterstroke, it does produce a rousing finish to this shambolic but irrepressibly good-natured film. Sep 24, 2009 Full Review Ruth Hessey MovieTime, ABC Radio National Stone Brothers indulges in a spectacular willingness to take the piss that's both a strength and a weakness. Sep 24, 2009 Full Review Alice Tynan Concrete Playground While some of the comedy is a bit brash and silly, Stone Bros. definitely succeeds in using humour to communicate some home truths. Apr 14, 2010 Full Review Anton Bitel Eye for Film THC-inspired tomfoolery serves as a smokescreen for all manner of countercultural observations on society and race... as Eddie and Charlie's road trip becomes a broader quest for their Aboriginal roots and identity in a postmodern Oz. Mar 5, 2010 Full Review Anders Wotzke Moviedex Won't burst through the comedic stratosphere, but Stone Bros. is still a trip worth taking. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 24, 2009 Full Review Read all reviews
