Critics Consensus

Stop and Go doesn't land all of its punchlines, but this road trip comedy largely transcends its limitations thanks to the chemistry between its two leads.

Christy Lemire FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) This is a very fun little indie and a very different way into the COVID movie. Oct 5, 2021 Full Review Beatrice Loayza New York Times Hit-and-miss. But mostly miss. Sep 30, 2021 Full Review Lisa Kennedy Variety These running gags begin rather flat, then over the span of the misadventure come to life. This reanimating has everything to do with the irrepressible rapport between Everton and Call. Mar 28, 2021 Full Review Zoë Rose Bryant Loud and Clear Reviews Stop And Go subverts every expectation you might have for a “COVID comedy,” whisking audiences away on an absurd but immensely amusing cross-country adventure. Rated: 4/5 Sep 1, 2022 Full Review Sean P. Means The Movie Cricket If we're going to have movies about the COVID-19 pandemic, let them be as funny and as charming as "Stop and Go," a light and bouncy comedy that shows that talent and chemistry can compensate for zero dollars in the production budget. Rated: 3/4 Oct 29, 2021 Full Review Murjani Rawls Substream Magazine 'Stop and Go' has a certain charm and is not afraid invoke laughter during a perilous time even if it's improv comedy style might lose it's footing from time to time. Audience Member These Ladies are really funny. I really enjoyed watching them in the studio C sketches and the Loving Life videos. I was really excited to see them in their first movie. For me personally it’s a miss fire. The premise is great and the first act is well done. But once the characters go on their road trip, there’s nothing really standing in their way or really preventing them from reaching their goal. By the end of the film, they had a real moment where you feel genuine emotion for the characters. Only for that moment to go out the window a few minutes later. What a shame. I really wanted to like this movie. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/06/23 Full Review Andrea K Hilarious! I can imagine when it came out, it was too close to COVID's beginnings, but now, it's hilarious remembering some of the things we use to do before we knew how it was transmitted. The actresses were so hilarious I had to look up if they were actually sisters in real life (nope, but best friends). Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/05/23 Full Review Spencer P A Covid comedy that is mostly driven by the improvised conversations between two best friends in a car, "Stop & Go" may not exactly be the debut film from "Studio C" alumns Whitney Call and Mallory Everton that Utah fans have been waiting for, but it's a refreshing exercise in how women realistically talk to each other. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Surprisingly crude content from two usually-clean (and usually-funny) comedians. I wish I had read the reviews first. If you enjoy vaginal and penile humor, this is the film for you! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review dave d Whitney Call and Mallory Everton wrote a movie for themselves to star in with Everton co-directing with supporting player Stephen Meek. The film is a road trip movie using Covid as the reason for the excursion. The filmmakers attempt to toe a fine line between comedy and morbidity with mixed results. There are moments that pop and the two leads have chemistry, but the supporting players are more caricatures than authentic. There are also moments in the car that are supposed to be boring and that doesn't work when the film is STRETCHED to 80 minutes. This is ANOTHER in the long line of short film extended to feature length. Nothing wrong with a tight 35 minute movie! It's missable and total fluff with nothing of substance to offer. I didn't laugh once, but do appreciate the film was in focus. It may be a bit too soon to do satire on COVID, especially if it is not high quality. Final Score: 4.2/10 Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member I made an account just to tell everyone how bad this movie is. Not funny at all. Just feels like an awkward observation of two friends' road trip. Just really…. Terrible. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Read all reviews
