Brad Wheeler Globe and Mail Minervini places these two non-actors in the same arena and no sparks whatsoever fly. It's a tedious, patience-testing experience that could reward only cinephiles and the curious. Rated: 2/4 Mar 12, 2015 Full Review Tom Long Detroit News Authenticity is the warm blood that pumps through "Stop the Pounding Heart," a low key but mesmerizing look at adolescent awakening in a fundamentalist family. Rated: B+ Mar 6, 2015 Full Review A.O. Scott New York Times "Stop the Pounding Heart" transcends both the red state-blue state split and limited, didactic ideas of cinematic realism. Sep 18, 2014 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com Its objectivity often feels like a grim purveyor of ignorance. Rated: 2.5/5 Sep 5, 2019 Full Review Jay Kuehner Cinema Scope More than the sum of its avowed influences, Stop the Pounding Heart evidences a supplicant style of filmmaking. Oct 10, 2017 Full Review Amanda Waltz The Film Stage Stop the Pounding Heart becomes a sensitive, lovingly crafted illustration of the relationship between culture, faith, and identity. Audience Member It was made for critics to revel in I suppose. The film seemed contrived and was overall just unenjoyable. These rednecks rolling around in the dirt and shooting guns were depressing as well as stupid. I did not gather anything of importance being said as a commentary. There are too many films being made. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Really should've been a short. There's some great stuff in this, and much of the cinematography is quite beautiful, but there just isn't enough story for a feature-length, and it shows. After the first half-hour, you'll be trying your best to stay awake. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Authenticity is the warm blood that pumps through "Stop the Pounding Heart," a low key look at adolescent awakening in a fundamentalist family. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member The little drama being created by the filmmaker seems to be a little enforced, but it's all about the almost non-judgemental observation of an anti-modern hill-billie farmers family, living 40 miles from me, and coming every weekend to my farmers market next door. Guns, Jesus, home schooling, bullriding, home birth, you get it. Minervini shows us the life beyond that. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
