      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Storm Boy can't quite live up to the original, but this retelling of a beloved story retains enough of its classic source material's heart to remain worth a watch.

Tobias M it's so emotional everyone like, cried. I love it Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/02/24 Full Review nicholas q it was quite interesting and was able to reflect upon real world events that are quite current Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review isla s This is a nice, interesting family friendly drama film set in Australia. I liked the cinematography and the musical score, plus the little boy's acting was very good. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member What Was Most Enjoyable, Was It Paid Homage To The Previous Film Whilst Building A New Story Layer. This Could Possibly Not Need To Be Made, But It's A Nice Touch With Some Aboriginal Homage & It's Environmental Twist. It Holds Functional Value, But Not Much Emotional Punch, Like The Original. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Joe T A remake with Geoffrey Rush? Why on earth? Who are the bob heads making these choices no one needs to see a movie they have seen 35 times again. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/17/21 Full Review Audience Member A film for everyone A visually stunning Australian film that has worldwide appeal for people of ALL ages. The themes about family, friendship, love, loss and loneliness are universal and rounded out with a message of hope for a better future. This is a throughly enjoyable and emotional "retelling" of Colin Thiele's book of the same name which has been in print for over 55 years. This is not a remake - this is a retelling and should not be compared to the 1976 version. This film stands on its on merit, it is beautifully shot and superbly acted. It's a remarkable film that will stay with you forever. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Kevin Maher Times (UK) It was worth the remake. Rated: 4/5 Apr 6, 2020 Full Review Andrea Gronvall Chicago Reader The movie is still a serviceable entertainment for wee ones. Feb 20, 2020 Full Review Peter Rainer FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) It's sort of disposable, but kind of sweet. Sep 27, 2019 Full Review Charles Koplinski Reel Talk with Chuck and Pam An unexpectedly moving tale about the importance of familial ties as well as the need for environmental regulations and preservation. Rated: 3.0/4.0 Nov 14, 2020 Full Review Dennis Harvey 48 Hills The result is actually less effective as family entertainment, and a bit heavy-handed. But it still has measures of scenic and sentimental appeal that should win over most viewers, particularly those not already invested... Oct 15, 2020 Full Review Aine O'Connor Sunday Independent (Ireland) The story has been updated with an environmental element, it is about 20 minutes too long and there's no real drama, but children who love animal films should especially enjoy it.
