      Critics Consensus

Like most modern animated movies, Strange Magic is lovely to look at; unfortunately, there isn't much going on beneath the surface.

Nikki D This movie is a family favourite! A fun, musical adaptation of A Midsummer’s Night Dream by William Shakespeare. The all star cast and covers of popular songs add a spirited twist to the acclaimed play. Ignore the bad reviews, give it a chance! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/18/24 Full Review Samsha P Absolutely wonderful! I never got the low reviews for this movie. It's one I can binge for years and years onward. It's not straight up romance, romance, romance. We get to see different perspectives on it through Dawn (the hopeless romantic), Sunny (the best friend), Griselda (the mom who just wants the best for her son), the King, Marianne, Bog King etc. Don't worry, of course we have some comedic undertones throughout as well. The chemistry between Bog King and Marianne is so "lovely". I couldn't help but keep a smile on my face throughout their interactions. Some may see the idea of them falling in love so fast as ridiculous, but it's a movie... there's only so much time they can work with. Overall 10/10. 100% would watch again, anytime, anywhere. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/10/24 Full Review Ag B I loved loved loved this movie , especially because they do music covers of real songs and do them so well . The story line is amazing and has morals Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/06/24 Full Review Clarice T Really sweet and pleasant to watch Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/28/24 Full Review Kristen O An enemies to lovers story but singing characters who are all off key the entire movie is definitely a turnoff. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/18/24 Full Review Alexander M Oh gods it was horrible. There was maybe 10 min of actual dialogue, the rest was just covers of regular songs. I know, it looks pretty-and it is-but the actual movie is horrendous. Do not watch. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/04/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Helen O'Hara Empire Magazine While there are fun moments, the whole is an odd mix of grotesquerie and cutesiness. Rated: 2/5 Aug 27, 2015 Full Review Alan Scherstuhl Village Voice The best Lucas film in 25 years: funny, idiosyncratic, hippy-dippy, packed with creatures and visions worth beholding. Feb 2, 2015 Full Review Steve Davis Austin Chronicle By the time the film's ending upends traditional conventions with its unlikely couplings, you're too distracted to fully appreciate the chutzpah, instead cringing at the opening chords of "Wild Thing." Rated: 1/5 Jan 29, 2015 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse Takes some simple ideas-beauty is only skin deep and love conquers all-and sprinkles them with fairy dust to create a musical that plays like Moulin Rouge for kids. Rated: 3.5/5 Feb 2, 2021 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com Bogged down by insipid dialogue. Rated: 1.5/4.0 Sep 24, 2020 Full Review Grant Watson Fiction Machine As it stands, this is the sort of project for which the term 'colossal misfire' seems purposefully coined.
