It's hard to imagine another actor in the world who could elicit those particular responses to those moments, or who could make the wild narrative swing of the climactic encounter not only play, but play credibly. Go to Full Review

Like so many women who unwisely spend too much time in gyms ruining their looks under the delusion of self-improvement, [Hunter's] muscles upstage her femininity. But the girl can still act. Go to Full Review

Indie road trip dramedies are a dime a dozen now, and aside from Hunter's performance, there's not much to distinguish this one from so many others. Go to Full Review

Christopher C Sep 5 I’ve always had a crush on Holly Hunter and she’s held up real well over the years…only one past me. I like how this was filmed. The backroads through the south, the ladie’s friendships, how the story all tied together at the end. It was bittersweet and Holly plays both bitter and sweet convincingly like she always has. These movie had a refreshing feel of real to it in a world saturated in too many Marvel Comics regurgitations and self fulfilling dystopian scenarios. Thanks Holly ; ) See more 02/12/2022 Great Movie! Lots of Reflection, and makes you look at your life! See more 04/06/2021 Good acting by Holly Hunter & Carrie Coon. See more 02/10/2021 Spoilers: Sign me up for any movie with Holly Hunter, Carrie Coon and Glenn Headley in it. But this one is about a woman stuck, but surviving. Anyone who loses a son to suicide must be a basket case for a while, if not forever. But here it is seven years later, and 50-something, single, college office worker Holly in Georgia can't get over her 20-something's demise, wants to know details of his last few days, tracks down his buddies to find out, and along the way discovers that one of them got rich on her son's business plan for a Hot Dawg fast food chain where people make their own dogs. She and best friend, lesbian neighbor Carrie hit the road to New Orleans to talk to the Dawg millionaire, and Holly has no real idea what she will say to him about the business plan -- she'd rather be spontaneous than have a plan, and packs a pistol. Along the way she tries to talk to her son's dad, now 70 and mentally gone in a senior facility, and finds that Carrie, not always a lesbian, had more than friendship with her son. But Carrie makes it clear she went on the road tr[p to help depressed Holly get unstuck before it kills her. They stay a night with old friend Glenn, and dredge up some past events. The climactic scene with the Dawg guy has us wondering if she will use the gun to kill him or herself or what, as she says she wants no cash from him but just details of her son's final night with Dawg man. But it seems releasing her demons and finding details of the night her son died is cathartic and forms the start of closure and peace with that horrific loss in her life. Sons of Anarchy's Kim is her on-again-off-again boyfriend who could never really compete for her with her dead son, but she finally sees that keeping him at arm's length is folly, too. It gets classified emotional drama, and nets only sour grapes ratings. But the quality of the acting and truth of the dialogue elevate this to a hard slice of life piece focusing on the journey toward survival after immense loss and shock to the system, and how it can take years to regain a semblance of normal life after that grinding grief. I'd rate it much higher than the pack did. RIP Glenn. See more 07/19/2020 Hunter is great in this.. The entire movie was well done !
