Dave S Aug 12 Carl Hiaasen’s novel Striptease was laugh-out-loud funny throughout; Andrew Bergman’s screen adaptation fails on almost every level. Demi Moore does her best with a flat script as Erin Grant, a former FBI employee who is forced to become a stripper in order to get custody of her daughter, which seems sort of counterintuitive in retrospect. And it turns out, she’s actually a pretty decent stripper, too. Rumer Willis, Moore’s real-life daughter, plays the stripper’s daughter and is actually the only other reason to watch this disaster. Ving Rhames essentially plays himself, Armand Assante seems half asleep and mumbles through every scene, and Burt Reynolds gives what is probably his worst performance ever as a corrupt and immoral congressman. But so is Showgirls yet everyone has come around to that. Moore was ahead of her time. Moore definitely carried.
