It’s an emotional journey as well as a career retrospective, celebratory in spirit and a tribute to one of the most award-winning players in the league’s history. Go to Full Review

Who Sue is matters, not only because she’s an engaging athlete to focus on, but because her story is unlike that of many sports documentaries. Sue isn’t necessarily an underdog, a theme that has defined most movies concentrating on sports figures. Go to Full Review

Like so many biopic docs of late [this is] nothing more than a slickly edited, hermetically sealed, pre-packed, and pre-approved highlights reel. Go to Full Review

Only once in a lifetime do we come across an athlete like Sue Bird which is why this documentary years from now will be essential in helping this legendary story live on. Go to Full Review

As with most biopic documentaries, the film is a positive-leaning celebration of its subject’s storied career. What makes this one different is that Dowland asks the questions you really want to hear, and Bird answers them with honesty. Go to Full Review

Admittedly, I don’t get emotional about sports in general, but Bird’s life encompasses a great deal more than just basketball; her influence goes so far beyond that, and In the Clutch makes that strikingly clear. Go to Full Review

Nic S @NicSarge Aug 4 TBH I have only started becoming familiar with the WNBA recently - and by recently, I mean a month ago. Yet somehow I’ve just gotten into a zoom whirlwind of catching up from players to teams and storylines. On the other hand, I have been a NBA fan for a very long time, approximately 12 years ago. The people around me, media network, the general culture at large - have always raved, celebrated and triumphed Men’s Basketball, whilst hearing zero about women’s basketball - with the main motif being: it wasn’t popular (or even worth watching) because of the lack of “athleticism” (or more so the inability to dunk)… but that’s just an absolutely tiny fraction to what basketball is even about. In my aforementioned catching up (which mainly involves the current 2025 repertoire), I was looking forward to watching this documentary chronicling the playing career of the WNBA’s best players, Sue Bird. And WOW, did I miss a lot… too much even. Bird has had such a storied career from the collegiate, national, international, olympic levels. Not only that, but in activism and social justice… it’s absolutely incredible. Yet, I’ve been kept in the dark about her amazing sports trajectory and even how exciting and thrilling women’s basketball has been for so many years now. These overplayed, untrue narratives are incredibly debunked. I’m just impressed that people in these teams’ communities supported in droves despite the cultural zeitgeist. The documentary itself was well-paced, going over each section of Bird’s playing career with space and levity. It’s a great summation of Bird’s impact on and off the court. Hopefully, stories like these can continue to be told to inspire others and offer an unfiltered true ground for athletes to speak their truth amidst the league’s rapid growth so these players can finally get the exposure, discourse and benefits (*cough cough* pay) they absolutely deserve.
