Audience Member Aside from a few moments of redeeming pathos, the majority of the film devolves into a boring rollercoaster of a melodrama with a supremely simplistic treatment of Betrand Russell's philosophy that 'war doesn't determine who is right, only who is left'. There are some cool effects with sepia and aging in the opening credits but short of that it's all rather benign. Apasiri Nitibhon is visually eloquent as the conflicted fulcrum of a political marriage during the Japanese occupation, but the subtitling in English is horrifying to the point that it doesn't really matter.
