Vince C May 8 Old Greece and New are often contrasted. I like the Beekeeper, but even that predated, perhaps, the modern insistence on nightclubs and tequila. Suntan is about a doctor who has a mid-life psychotic breakdown stalking an inadvertent prick-tease he misinterprets and falls in love with. It's a snail's-paced cringe-fest. But it's not like watching paint dry - it's more like watching maggots eat a corpse. That being the point doesn't make it entertaining. The ending's microtwist gives us (too little) humanity (too late), and that doesn't make it worth watching either. See more Marc Z @TKDLife 06/23/2024 This movie was not at all what I expected. This is a deeply disturbing tale of a nerdy island doctor that becomes obsessed with a Greek tourist over the Summer months, and, whose life spirals out of control. The story foreshadows trouble based upon the doctor's discussions of past issues in the evolution of his career. The acting is stellar. The Direction is strong. The story builds, as does the pace. A great, small, little known film that is worth seeing. This is in Greek, with English Subtitles. See more 01/10/2022 Basically to some it up without giving too much away, this is another movie that emphasizes on the ignorance of humanity (particularly the younger generation) and how most of us do things that we think are harmless fun at the time, but can have a greater impact on someone, say with a serious mental illness. This movie does an excellent job at getting its point across, and I myself, having gone through similar emotional experiences, completely understand the main characters struggle. It's the kind of film Thomas Mann would make, reminded me of Tonio Kröger and Death in Venice, the kind of discomfort of looking on from the fringes.
