Después de que el videojuego original alcanzara gran popularidad en corto tiempo, se tomó la decisión de hacer esta adaptación a tan solo un año después de que el videojuego naciera. Se puede apreciar que esta película fue hecha para conocer más el lore del universo de Mario cuando aún estaba en etapa temprana. Esta película toma todos los elementos característicos del juego original y hasta se puede notar que tiene algunas ideas que serían reutilizadas en los videojuegos que vendrían después. La película da la oportunidad de conocer la personalidad de los personajes y como son. Lo que ofrece es una divertida caricatura que supo materializar el universo del videojuego, dejando en claro que había detrás de los píxeles. La banda sonora es la misma del videojuego, pero sumando canciones originales que son bastante buenas. No cabe duda que esta película es una joya que ha permanecido en el anonimato por mucho tiempo hasta ser descubierta por la magia del internet. Esta película de Super Mario Bros fue el gran salto digno que tuvo la franquicia en la gran pantalla antes de que la versión de 1993 pusiera la franquicia a dormir por 30 años y luego fuera resucitada por la versión de Illumination. Mi calificación final para esta película es un 9/10.

I'm watching this movie and the 1993 Mario movie before I go see the new 3rd one in theatres today. This one is not terrible, but it's bad. The voice actors are terrible, so much doesn't make sense, ect. But something I do like about the film, is unlike the 1993 movie, it actually has a lot of stuff from the Mario games, which I really appreciate. Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Ect are in it, and they all look like they are supposed to. There is also plenty of things in the film that are in the games. If you are a big Mario fan, I genuinely think you will enjoy this because of all the stuff from the games that is in the film. I am not a big fan though, so I think that may be why I don't like it as much. It's close, but I think this is better than the 1993 "super Mario bros" movie. 2.8/10.
