What to Know

Critics Consensus

Millie Alcock brings a swagger to Kara Zor-El that'd make Krypton proud in this otherwise familiar origin story, dawning a promising new hero in the DCU who's still waiting for an adventure that matches her vigor.

Audience Says

An enjoyable origin story for Kara Zor-El that leans into the messy emotional fallout of grief, Supergirl launches DC into a new era with cosmic force.

"Supergirl" proves that the new DC Universe has the potential to tell meaningful stories alongside its big action set pieces. If "Superman" gave the DC Universe hope, "Supergirl" gives it heart." Go to Full Review

Director Craig Gillespie goes all-in on replicating James Gunn's directorial style. The result isn’t exceptionally exciting, but it’s serviceable, good-natured, and frequently fun, particularly when the film rests in Milly Alcock's hands. Go to Full Review

A shame the movie isn’t anywhere as good as Milly Alcock's performance. Go to Full Review

A jumbled, uninteresting mess most of the time. Supergirl feels like a James Gunn knock-off and makes you wonder how much producer interference influenced this lackluster picture. Go to Full Review

Supergirl is a western centered superhero film that never flies as high as Superman but still in all of it's flaws gives you enough thrills to be entertaining. Go to Full Review

Marcus 3h I recognize that critics viewed this movie as underwhelming, yet I found it a worthwhile experience. I understand their perspective clearly. The sole aspect I disliked—possibly because she becomes Supergirl toward the end—is that she might have shared her abilities, though I appreciate her reasoning. See more Ross U 3h It was fine. Exactly what you’d think for an origin story to set her up as a character. See more Kevin 5h Just not a great movie See more dennis b 10h More music video than anything else. Cuts down on dialogue. Why is Jason Mamoa channeling Ghost Rider as Gene Simmons? I’m glad HE was having fun. Who is the little girl with the sword, another Blue Eyed Samurai? And these two are a lot of this boring mess. Kara-el has sobriety and hygiene issues. But finally at the end she heals herself of all the kryptonite puts on the uniform, it’s all a blur & ok and roll credits. Before this, I did not know that Supergirl pukes and pees. Maybe only under a yellow, orange/red or green sun, right? Too many ways this is a very easy movie to dislike. See more Phillip 13h This movie is all over the place, the child actor’s cringe is incredibly cringey, it feels incredibly rushed, and the action is unevenly paced and saved primarily for the ending. See more Pessimistic Penny 13h A movie about a girl and her dog. Almost like a John Wick vibe, but feminine? Ruthye was mimicking Princess Bride with her “you killed my family prepare to die!” repetitive lines. Was she truly needed for this film? No, not really. Thank gosh they didn’t go the normal route with a female protagonist superhero and have her fall in love to realize her “true self” 🙄. Not bad, it was fine. See more Read all reviews
