Man of Steel's exhilarating action and spectacle can't fully overcome its detours into generic blockbuster territory.

Jason Bailey Flavorwire Snyder is an adrenaline junkie forever jonesing for a fix; he does less building to the action beats than backing each one into the next. Jun 21, 2016 Full Review Chris Stuckmann ChrisStuckmann.com Clark's multiple father-and-son tales are beautifully realized and it's a very fun movie to watch. However, the romance is shallow. mah4283 the movie was great but I hate the subtitle machine we need the glasses back not that cup holder thing Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/09/24 Full Review Uncle R. Intro back story is too long A lot of the castings are bad Too dark for a Superman movie Henry Cavill’s version of Clark Kent sucks Henry Cavill’s Superman always looks angry The fight scenes are good I guess Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/16/25 Full Review Stathis K Visuals: 10/10 – The movie looks incredible. The Krypton scenes, the flying, the battles… everything feels massive and cinematic. Soundtrack: 10/10 – Hans Zimmer absolutely carries the emotion. His Superman theme hits hard. Action: 9/10 – Fast, intense, super-powered fights that actually feel like gods clashing. Story: 8/10 – More serious and grounded than classic Superman, focusing on Clark trying to find his place in the world. Performances: 9/10 – Henry Cavill nails the role. Quiet, emotional, believable. Overall, 9/10. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/16/25 Full Review Paulo V Man of Steel is undoubtedly one of the most underrated superhero films of the last decade. Many people didn't realize it at the time, but what Zack Snyder did was reinvent the Superman myth in a more human, realistic, and emotional way—something that completely departed from the colorful and lighthearted standard that audiences were used to. The film isn't just about a man with superpowers trying to save the world, but about someone trying to understand his own place in it. From the beginning, Clark is portrayed as a being divided between two worlds: the alien world of Krypton and the human world raised in Kansas. This internal conflict gives depth and makes the character much more interesting. Visually, the film is spectacular. The cold cinematography, the almost mythological style, and Hans Zimmer's soundtrack create a grandiose atmosphere that gives weight to each scene. The final battle in Metropolis might be criticized for being too destructive, but in reality, it shows the true impact of a fight between gods—something Snyder always wanted to explore. Furthermore, Henry Cavill was simply the perfect Superman. He brought strength, but also vulnerability, and managed to convey the weight of being someone with so much power and so much responsibility. The script may not have the typical Marvel humor, but it brings a seriousness that fits much better with the essence of DC: something that mixes hope and tragedy, idealism and sacrifice. In the end, Man of Steel is not just a superhero movie; it's a story about identity, choice, and faith. And, over time, more and more people are recognizing how ahead of its time it was. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/12/25 Full Review Ron K. A big deal was made in the film about the symbol on his chest meaning “hope” on his home planet. Yet the film itself offered very little feeling of hope. It was a wanton mass of action sequences and destruction that never seemed to have a defined purpose to the story. A dark and brooding Superman in the film stands in stark contrast to 75 years of comic history with the character.
