Surfing means everything to teenage penguin Cody Maverick. Followed by a documentary film crew, he leaves his home in Antarctica for Pen Gu Island, site of the Big Z Memorial Surf Off. Cody wants to be respected and admired, and he believes that winning the competition will bring him what he craves. However, an encounter with washed-up surfer Geek teaches Cody about what is truly important.

On the surface, this may not sound like a particularly original idea, but director Ash Brannon handles the "documentary" framing device so well, adults may forget they are watching a cartoon.

An animated classic achieving its mockumentary form palpably crafted with natural brilliance, albeit structurally formulaic over occasional narrative purposes, backed up with satirically dynamical exceptionality both stirring laughs and heartening a message between dreams and passions. (B+)

A fantastic and highly original animated film that deserves to be better remembered. The movie's greatest asset is its mockumentary format, featuring interviews and handheld camera work that lend a unique, realistic dynamic to the story.

This movie is perfection. It is the funniest thing ive ever seen. I remember watching it for the first time when i was 3 at my cousins house. Sadly being a dumb 3 year old not knowing how incredible this movie was at the time, i didnt pay enough attention as i should have. Then i watched in properly all the way through for the first time on my grade 4 camp. The teachers told us we were watching a movie and i see them pull up netflix and click on what i didnt know at the time was a fucking masterpeice. This genuinely changed my life. Its hilarious, insparational, adicting and so much more. I cant beleive i didnt watch it so much sooner, it should have been playing on the hospital room tv for me the second i was out of the womb. That would have been the perfect starting point. It is fucking biblical how good this movie is.

One of the best movies i have watched it really helps its case by adding iconic memes like "broken broken gone gone broken broken broken" or "i can feel it in my nuggets" would recommend to NOT let your birds watch it OR ELSE they might turn into surfers
