Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com A second-tier Garbo potboiler is still worth watching, even if the plot is preposterous, plus it's the only film the Divine made with the then rising star, Clark Gable. Rated: B- Jan 6, 2009 Full Review Read all reviews

Tamara K While this is not the best film in the world seeing Garbo and Gable together delights me to no end. I also adore anything with Gable in it not sporting his stupid moustache. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/18/23 Full Review Steve D It doesn't work today and it is still hard not to enjoy it anyway. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/10/23 Full Review Audience Member Garbo and Gable's personalities are like oil and water but they look good together and the film is entertaining of its type. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Despite a promisingly gritty start, this soon descends into the kind of soapy melodrama that MGM liked to waste Garbo's talents in. She is still utterly compelling, of course, and her co-star was an up-and-coming Clark Gable (they reportedly didn't get along, and never worked together again.) To be watched for historical value only. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Susan/Helga is the most annoying milquetoast character ever committed to film. Garbo is totally miscast playing such a knock-kneed rube who decides to become a hooker just because one man says she belongs in the gutter - yeah!! that'll show him, dumbass!. Moustacheless Clark Gable is pretty sexy and virile though - too bad he's written as such a douche of epic proportions. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member good pre-code talkie Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews
