Bilge Ebiri Spirituality & Health Sushi: The Global Catch gains genuine immediacy. Like the best advocacy documentaries, it makes you leave the theater wanting to learn more about how you can help. Mar 25, 2020 Full Review Mike Sula Chicago Reader Unlike the recent Jiro Dreams of Sushi, it doesn't inspire conflicting feelings of guilt and hunger -- it's nearly devoid of fish fetishism. Nov 16, 2012 Full Review John DeFore The Hollywood Reporter It isn't all bad news in a doc suggesting sustainability and culinary pleasure aren't mutually exclusive. Aug 3, 2012 Full Review Brett Michel Boston Phoenix In trying to cover all these topics, Hall casts too wide a net. Rated: 2/4 Aug 23, 2012 Full Review Doris Toumarkine Film Journal International Engaging, informative and mercifully non-frantic documentary about the exploding global appetite for sushi and how such popularity threatens coveted blue fin tuna and the ocean's ecosystem. Aug 2, 2012 Full Review Harvey S. Karten Compuserve A look at the worldwide sushi industry with emphasis on how overfishing of Bluefish tuna could wipe out the species in five years. Audience Member It argues convincingly for sustainability. I'm not sure you could watch this and not think that tuna is doomed without immediate action. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member very educational. not just about the art of sushi but about the underline issues of sushi. as in what we (humans) do to the ecosystem with over consuming the delicacies the oceans have offered. very insightful. not sure I will look at eating sushi the same way again Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Not quite what I was expecting. Very focused on the environmental impact of sushi, as well as sustainability discussions. Even though it wasn't quite what I was looking for, it was pretty interesting nonetheless. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Very well done, not preachy or condescending, but I learned a lot. This film covers some of the history of sushi, the fishing market of Tsukiji, fishing and shipping of fish around the world, and how our hunger for sushi affects the world's oceans. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member A terrific documentary on the rise of sushi as a staple of the world's burgeoning affluent, but also a cautionary tale on the sustainability thereof. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member 2/24/14 Excellent story of the whole sushi story, particularly the need to be aware of sustainability of fish populations, especially the blue fin tuna. I will always be more aware of the fish I order in sushi restaurants. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Read all reviews
