walter m In "Sweet Deceptions," Francesca(Catherine Spaak) is a 17-year old who is excited when she wakes up in her home in Rome. It is not school that she is excited about which she skips anyway. No, it is the visit to Enrico(Christian Marquand), a family friend and architect. In any case, she did not miss anything at school what with the teacher being out sick for the day. "Sweet Deceptions" is a quietly devastating movie that starts with an enticingly long shot of its heroine waking up for the day. For Francesca, this will be a day that will change everything. For as long as she can remember, she has been seduced by the sophistications of adulthood, for which she is tantalizingly close to but in no way prepared for.
