Catherine Bray Guardian By the time the punchy climax rolls around, you realise they’ve pulled off the improbable and created a tense sports/crime drama on a budget easily one tenth of their equivalent rivals. Rated: 3/5 Jun 25, 2025 Full Review Sebastian Zavala Kahn Cinencuentro It's admirable what was achieved on a small budget and, I imagine, in a short time. Swing Bout proves that you don't need hundreds of extras or a lot of violence to develop a boxing story effectively. [Full review in Spanish]. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 18, 2025 Full Review Stephen Porzio joe.ie [An] Irish boxing thriller that punches above its weight. Jul 3, 2025 Full Review Chris Joyce Movies and Munchies (YouTube) [Swing Bout] doesn't do a good job of character development, but I appreciate the creativity [of the story]. The movie was too slow and introduced complications that could have meant something [but didn't]. Jun 2, 2025 Full Review Joey Keogh Vague Visages A bloody brawl does eventually ensue, but the writer-director takes a massive gamble by spending 90 minutes with female boxers, only to push them aside when their big moment finally arrives. May 16, 2025 Full Review Charles Koplinski Reel Talk with Chuck and Pam A gritty morality tale, Maurice O’Carroll’s “Swing Bout” is a blistering chamber piece featuring a bevy of desperate characters, each encountering a variety of ethical dilemmas, none of which can be solved with fists or brawn. Sinead O Couldn’t get this film out of my head after seeing it it in cinemas. The story is incredible!! A boxing film with no film. Who’d have though! What a unique premise and completely subverts the boxing genre. The sound design as absolutely incredible. A brilliant cinematic experience for a real independent film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/01/25 Full Review Mary O Absolutely loved this film and the people behind it. My fists were clenched for the entire film and I was not expecting the ending. A must watch!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/31/25 Full Review Sinead O Absolutely incredible film from start to finish. For a low indie budget film, it just goes to show what can be made when proper pre-production, proper casting, writing, directing, editing, score, lighting and sound design all come together. As the critics say… It’s a film with such high production values it rivals its competitors on a 1/10th of their budgets. High- tense, action, thriller, with high stakes that creates a pressure like cooking chamber. Incredible talent both in front and behind the camera.
