Audience Member The Sword Bearer started out as a real treat. It was shrouded in mystery, and unlike English language blockbusters, I hadn't overdosed in trailers, posters, and message boards. We see a motorcycle crash, and then a logging truck cut in half. As the mystery evolves, we find both gangsters and cops are after our protagonist. He's a normal guy, but when he gets angry he has the ability to grow a blade from his wrist. As the film progresses, it adds more tasty tidbits. He seems to kill anyone, even those pleased to see him. Later he picks up a girl and they go on the run together. The film looked gorgeous, in a bleak and realistic setting. The only real problem is the lack of explanation. I have no idea why any of these events took place. It seems so inconsequential to the writer to have some kind of narrative focus, that it's a film of set-up and no payoff. There's certainly a lot to be loving here, but being unable to invest in the character was a major flaw. It does show how one act of violence will escalate out of control, but should we allow people to just walk around the film world with knife hands and no explanation? Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Great russian movie. I found the film quite odd at the beginning, but as the film went on, It was getting more and more interesting and surprisingly good. At first view you directly think that it's a violent and gore movie but in fact it's a romantic film which stands strong and solid thanks to the two main characters and especially the beautiful Chulpan Khamatova (?????? ????????). At first sight with his powers, the protagonnist, Sacha makes us think of Wolverine. This movie is a great revelation for me. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member OVNI en provenance de Russie. Une sorte de X men poetique, ultraviolent, a l image surrealiste mettant en scene des personnages livides, fieres et sans emotions visibles. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member The story of the movie is kinda lame, but it manages to keep you interested because of the concept. The guy has freaking sword in his arm for god sakes, that's pretty cool in my book. So if you can look past all the long "pretty" scenes in sunsets and in dark alleys then this movie is pretty cool. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member nothing special except good actors Chulpan Khamatova and Artyom Tkachenko Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member The plot is corny, the end is obvious ... almost a silent movie (which is good in this sort of movies)... but there is something about the way it was shot, the colors, the atmosphere... i liked it alot.
