todd m Super suspenseful, magnificently acted and perfectly crafted. Holds up. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/16/24 Full Review don s A well acted HBO movie from nearly 30 years ago. The acting is very good. The story is based after the horrible events at the Munich Olympics in '72. Not fully believable - these 5 guys appeared to have it too easy - but the story is intriguing. The movie would have been better by cutting out the last 20 minutes or so, but still, a very good political drama. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member An enjoyable film that does raise a few questions, but ultimately comes down to where you stand on the subject of Israel. It's dramatic and it has it's moments of good dialogue and emotions. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Poor production values and the 2.5 hour running time notwithstanding, 'Sword of Gideon' is still a much better movie than Spielberg's 'Munich'... No doubt it's a tough ask to present a neutral view on events such as the Munich massacre and the extrajudicial retribution that followed but this movie manages do just that... and that makes it a movie worth watching! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member This is the original version of what Steven Spielberg later remade as 'Munich'. This film is all around better than Spielberg's, despite a smaller budget and poorer production values, it avoids turning itself into an action/adventure film and instead deals with the characters and avoids excessive gratuitous violence, unlike Spielberg's. Thats not to say Spielberg's remake wasn't good, I just think this was better. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review dave j Thursday, January 13, 2011 (1986) Sword of Gideon THRILLER/DRAMA True story based on an actual book called "Vengeance" written by George Jonas about retribution for the 1972 Olympic massacre on several Isralian atheletes! Some high official Israli gov't then form a group of people on their own to eliminate suspected terrorists connected to that Olympic incident! HBO tv movie, although well made with some well written dialogue is quite a depressing experience even if it's based on fact and the dialogue has some restraints! This was also the base for director Steven Spielberg to redo this film again starring Danial Craig called "Munich" ! 2 out of 4 Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
