Anthony Lane New Yorker There's something blessed and consoling in these unfathomable sights. You may not get them, but they get to you, and stay. Mar 8, 2019 Full Review Seth Troyer PopMatters It’s an epically modernist and experimental look at memory that, interestingly enough, gravitates around what might forever be (for better or worse) the central symbol of animation: the anthropomorphic animal. Oct 3, 2023 Full Review Tim Brayton Antagony & Ecstasy One of the greatest cinematic poems that has ever been and could ever be. Rated: 10/10 Dec 11, 2016 Full Review Read all reviews

william k This near-masterpiece of animated cinema uses simple, but enigmatic images to tell a complex fanatsical tale of love and loss. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Amazing associations Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member More authentic than most cinematic retellings of fairytales - keeping all the gory and shocking bits in - a Tale of Tales tells its three separate stories vividly, with a roster of great actors and sumptuous design to bring across its world convincingly. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Its symbolic images will get stuck in your mind for a long time. A masterpiece of pure poetry, one of the greatest animated films of all time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member The film's symbolism and its sad, elusive, yet always beautiful images capture a sense of poetry that familiar narrative conventions never could. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member First of all two words. PURE ART.I rarely used the terms 'masterpiece' and 'Perfection' referring to an animation or a short film. This is one of those rare instances though not only that. This is a Timeless masterpiece, I must say. And I saw someone has denoted this as " Tarkovsky for babies". I mean What an introduction for a film huh. I'm writing this review after my 3rd view of this movie and, everytime I watch this this delivers something new. I don't know how can someone make a film like this. Actually I'm shocked with every watch I'm having. Before this I saw "Hedgehog in the Fog" and that was where I became very interested in the Russian animation. Actually fan of Yuri Norstein. This story is about 'Childhood Innocence' and the loss of loved ones. Though it is mostly non-narrative and comprised of a number of related sequences. The story atmosphere, and themes are rendered adeptly. These frames are not only beautiful to be amazed, Every frame bears its deep meaning emotionally. Well, I'm really short of words to describe how amazing and beautiful this is. Next thing is sounds. Tale of Tales starts with some kind of lullaby and as I mentioned above, this doesn't contain too many dialogues. So even the job which is up to dialogues is marvelously done by visuals and sounds. I can't suggest everyone to watch this, but if you can find 30 minutes, try maybe there will be a light at the end of the tunnel. And then Tarkovsky fans, if you haven't watched this at least once, hello, What the heck are you doing.. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews
