walter m When a bus is temporarily disabled by a pothole on the way into a village, the passengers walk the rest of the way while Ayub goes to get help. In the meantime, Abdullah walks to the spring to have a drink of something a little stronger than water. He also takes the time to decorate the new scarecrow. Which everybody in the village says now resembles him... In general, the 70's was a great decade for funky and weird cinema, of which "Tall Shadows of the Wind," made in 1979 and from Iran, is a prime example. Overall, the movie thrives on its creepy atmosphere while having just as many masterful shots as it does endings. Story wise, it concerns itself with Abdullah as his anxieties grow and actually take shape when he is faced with an impending arranged marriage and being even more closely tied to his isolated home village which he has grown to hate. And it turns out he is not the only one affected. On the other hand, sometimes a scarecrow is just a scarecrow. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
