Tango & Cash

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Brutally violent and punishingly dull, this cookie-cutter buddy cop thriller isn't even fun enough to reach "so bad it's good" status.

Jason Bailey Flavorwire 'Tango & Cash' turns 25 years old next month, which means if it were a person, it'd be right around the right age to start realizing what a stupid movie 'Tango & Cash' is. Jun 7, 2016 Full Review Gene Siskel Chicago Tribune The jokes seem lame and the rivalry fraudulent, as the two boys play with their big guns. Rated: 1.5/4 Jun 11, 2014 Full Review Dave Kehr Chicago Tribune The film looks like the sort of queasy fever dream that might be produced by sitting through an entire Orson Welles film festival while eating pepperoni pizzas. Rated: 2/4 Jun 11, 2014 Full Review Candace Wiggins Southern Voice (Atlanta) Average direction, average script, average everything. Rated: 2/4 May 9, 2023 Full Review Rene Jordan El Nuevo Herald (Miami) Tango and Cash is at least active and acrobatic… not too bad. [Full review in Spanish] Jul 1, 2022 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins Stallone and Russell are entirely watchable as two larger-than-life juggernauts portraying the same cheeky tough-guy characters they always play in their actioners. Chris T With empty genuflecting of an 80’s action film, bad jokes, visual metaphors that don’t really pay off, and a rivalry between two stars that were so popular at the time that good writing and an interesting plot were really a big waste of time. The standard “drugs/bad, cops/good” premise reminds me of the simpler time, the naivety of the public, and moving the plot simply by skipping forward in editing (cut to tango and cash arrested) that made the 80’s so great. Ignorance was indeed bliss. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/14/24 Full Review Petar P Great movie, good story for the 80s and great perfoarmance! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/07/23 Full Review Milos I You can find many flaws to this movie if you want, but for some reason I love it, probably because it gets me back to my childhood, some lines from the movie ("we're almost out of gas:)) stuck in my head for 20 years:) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/16/23 Full Review Petros T An enjoyable buddy cop movie but not much more. The main attraction is surely the interplay between Sylvester Stallone, who unexpectedly puts his comedic chops to work with slightly mixed but certainly pleasant results, and Kurt Russell, who looks like a million bucks and steals the show with his swagger. It's no surprise that the bad guys are as formulaic as it gets and that the script is a hackneyed excuse for action set pieces, but at least the results are engaging and quite funny at times. Roteiro e enredo bons. Vale apena assistir? Com certeza. Nota: 8,25 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/03/23 Full Review The P I love this fun ass movie Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews
