Jake Wilson Sydney Morning Herald iven the option, Panahi might prefer to move onto fresh material -- but as man and artist, he seems to be surviving as well as could be hoped. Rated: 3.5/5 Dec 22, 2015 Full Review Anthony Lane The New Yorker Panahi's status as a martyr for his art could have gulled him into loftiness and pride; and yet, by some miracle, Taxi stays as modest as his smile, the point being not to recruit us to his cause but to put us on the side of his compatriots. Dec 8, 2015 Full Review Scott Marks San Diego Reader Taxi is easily the director's most accessible work to date. isla s This seemed to me more like a social documentary than a drama film as such. Its interesting, in terms of getting glimpses into different peoples lives in Iran and I appreciate that the filmmaker had to make it while being at risk of getting in trouble as filming is illegal (or it certainly was when the film was made) in Iran. Iran is somewhere I think of as being quite secretive and mysterious, which is why it interested me. I found the stories from individual customers (of the taxi where the filming takes place) interesting and thought it gave a decent insight into, as I say, Iranian society at the time it was filmed (2014). Its not a particularly exciting or memorable film but its worth a watch regardless, so I would recommend this to anyone interested in the setting. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Another "underground" film from Panahi who was banned from making them for 20 years. This one is a well written and entertaining ride around Tehran, but gets a bit muddled in some of the situations and acting that really distract from the docudrama style. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member A nice portrait of Tehran and it's social/political environment around 2015. The passengers are breezily entertaining in their own ways but I'm not sure it ever gets better than the opening scenes. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Incredibly powerful film with an incredible story of how it was brought to the west! Jafar Panahi was in house imprisonment, so he hid the film in a cake to smuggle it out. He is such an incredible man. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member The most appealing movie I have ever seen. It disgraces anything that makes a film a film. Lack of editing and the fact the who,e film has about 3 cuts, is really boring and engaging. The events that happen feel unscripted and boring and the only remotely amusing bit is the old women with the fish. I don't use the word hate very often, but I hate this movie with a passion. Don't get me wrong it's interesting in terms of Iran, but it could have been told so much better. After 10 minutes I felt like sleeping, because I had simply zoned out. I understand Panahi's circumstances effected this film, and appreciate his message but I could never watch this again. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Showing and telling stories: the essence of cinema, in my opinion. This movie tells you that if you have a great idea and a camera, you can make a great movie, even if there is an entire system against you.
