Critics Consensus

Tehran Taboo is a marvelous chronicle of a country through the prism of rotoscope, with the overlay of striking animation giving writer-director Ali Soozandeh's acutely observed characters an extra dimension.

Thee S Not my favorite visual style because of the filter-like look, but the story is solid. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/28/23 Full Review Audience Member there's some anti-iranian propaganda in it and but overall love this movie. storyline more like a fiction Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a brave and revelatory drama that exposes the double-standards of conventional and sexual life customary of women to serve to men in the Iranian capital, which provides particularly startling insight behind the sexual submission and lack of freedom they must endure. The storytelling, subject and characters are matched in their excellence with the rotoscope animation, which adds to the films originality and makes it visually realistic and alluring. A great film.
