When his assistant, Lance (Scott Coffey), goes on paternity leave the night before a big report is due, cookie company executive Peter (Timothy Hutton) is saved by temporary replacement Kris (Lara Flynn Boyle). Though Kris proves to be efficient and eager to please, Peter grows disturbed when his business rivals repeatedly end up dead or injured under suspicious circumstances. As Kris climbs the corporate ladder, he begins to wonder if she is a murderer.

Some of the movie plays as if it were intended to be tongue-in-cheek, but other parts are played straight, making it appear that Holland and his screenwriter Kevin Falls couldn't make up their minds about what sort of movie they wanted to make. 04/08/2020 An ok thriller starring Lara Flynn Boyle, Timothy Hutton and Faye Dunaway. It's entertaining and not as bad as it is made out to be. See more 06/04/2018 The stars are for LFB. Again the woman is cold and evil. Even when during the cold open we find out Tim Hut has a Mr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde complex. There is a couple twists that a casual watcher would miss. Lile me the first two times. Take: An enjoyable 90's quasi-thriller with a psycho ex-girlfriend flavor. Watch it w/friends for an awesome Movie night. Laughs abound. Written by someone who was a frequent collaborator with Aaron Sorkin and directed by Tom Holland, who made the classic original "Fright Night" and wrote the underappreciated "Psycho II," I'd have hoped this film would have been better, but it really doesn't deliver anything you haven't seen before or seen done better. Timothy Hutton is a advertising executive who gets a wonderful new temp secretary, Lara Flynn Boyle, who will stop at nothing to advance her career. When you have Glenn Close craziness mixed with Melanie Griffith ambition, you get a fairly ridiculous mix for a corporate thriller. The story and characters never feel very credible, but I do have to say I was interested to see how it was all going to end. Dwight Schultz, Oliver Platt, Steven Webber and Maura Tierney all appear in supporting roles, as does Faye Dunaway who gives this trashy thriller a bit of credibility. I don't know if this film is really worth watching, but at the same it has a decent cast and was interesting enough of a story that I stuck with it. See more Read all reviews
