Audience Member Haven't seen this in years. Found an uncut version on YouTube. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Like many anime film spinoffs this has beautiful animation. The film has a very epic feel to it making it look like it would have been a very cinematic experience in theaters. I really enjoyed it, it does a great job of making the plot and characters feel important in this self contained film. This like many other spinoff films of anime tv or OVA /OAV series doesn't really explain much background of the characters to tie in the spark of the series. After watching this I wish it did because the storyline here would give a new dimension to the various Tenchi Muyo series. It might have been difficult because they all basically start over in each series. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member Live up to the name I love Tenchi Muyo and I hope in the future to see more of this funny motley crew of misfits with superpowers Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Tenchi is some kind of magical royal heir; a supercriminal goes back to the past and kills his mother, which means that he and his coterie of psychic female friends must time-travel to mom's high school days to try to assure Tenchi will eventually be born. This feature-length spinoff of a Japanese TV series is generic anime fantasy stuff that makes no attempt to explain the characters or the setting for newcomers, and gives no indication why the show was ever popular. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member Tenchi Universe was a great TV anime. While it began on a rather sour note (the insane amount of filler comes to mind), it managed to, in the end, distill the best elements of the Tenchi Muyo! franchise (gut-busting humor, exciting action, interesting sci-fi elements) into a 26-episode television series. Tenchi Muyo! in Love continues the story with yet another fantastic addition to the franchise, this time in the film medium. The animation looks superb, perfectly complimenting the epic story of the film, and the music from Babylon 5 composer Christopher Franke only adds to the mystique. A lot of people seem to find the story confusing and complicated, but I had no such problems. Really, as far as time-travel plots go, Tenchi Muyo! in Love is fairly simple, and it does what it does excellently. While newcomers to the Tenchi franchise may be slightly befuddled with how heavily this film hinges on the continuity of its accompanying TV series, it is still a magnificent film and a shining example of why Tenchi Muyo! as a whole holds up after over 20 years on the market. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member A fitting conclusion to Tenchi Universe with an interesting plot, good voice acting and nice animation.
