Audience Member A surprisingly good peplum that discards the usual cliches for a more complicated look at trust among the emperor and his wife of a different class. Some cliches are there (Justinian and Theodora compete in a chariot race and their love scenes are about as basic as expected from a peplum) but they don't generally distract from the plot. The sets are wonderful as are the costumes, apart from some rather odd helmets. The plot is quite complex as well with various intrigues and cross purposes.
