In this sequel set eleven years after "The Terminator," young John Connor (Edward Furlong), the key to civilization's victory over a future robot uprising, is the target of the shape-shifting T-1000 (Robert Patrick), a Terminator sent from the future to kill him. Another Terminator, the revamped T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger), has been sent back to protect the boy. As John and his mother (Linda Hamilton) go on the run with the T-800, the boy forms an unexpected bond with the robot.

Nothing detracts or distracts from [the film's] cost. Not the plot - too lame, too limp, too tense but with no tension. Not its look - it has the sleek, blue-ice sheen of a music video. Not its script - which reads pompous, the way only bad sci-fi can.

"Terminator 2"...is packed with thrills and astonishing visual effects - there are a couple of long, winding chases... that are as exciting as any ever filmed, and this is one of the few movies worth seeing for its special effects alone.

Pacing: flawless. And for an action film, that is one of those things that they really need to nail if they're gonna keep up the level of excitement that an action film is supposed to deliver. Terminator 2 does it in spades.

Amazing sequel, but I kept half of a star because it never quite matches to recreate the constant sense of dread of its predecessor. It's a near perfect movie, while the first one is a masterpiece of its genre.

Synopsis
