Nick Schager Lessons of Darkness A run-of-the-mill slasher film whose central gimmick is setting its action on a train. Rated: C Apr 14, 2011 Full Review Time Out Better than most of its kind. Jun 24, 2006 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times The classic horror films of the 1930s appealed to the intelligence of its audiences, to their sense of humor and irony. Movies like Terror Train... just don't care. They're a series of sensations, strung together on a plot. nick s It's a slasher film, so you have to look at it in context. For the genre it's pretty good. The production quality was great, the concept was fun and the acting perfectly fine. Some moments were a little absurd, trying to go for shock over substance. The ending was a bit cliché with the antagonist... well, you know how it goes. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/19/25 Full Review Melissa M The only thing scary about this movie is the acting. In spite of the fact that Jamie Lee Curtis The Scream Queen of the horror genre is in this movie you think the film would be worth watching. But it's not. I know they have a lot of dark scenes in horror movies for dramatic effects. But the flashing lights at the beginning of the film is distracting. This movie falls into the ham & cheese category. The acting is hammy. And the movie is cheesy. Hollywood now is all about remakes & reboots. If any movie needed to be remade it's definitely this one. David Copperfield's acting in this film is surprisingly good. Even with David Copperfield's magic he couldn't turn this D movie into a B movie. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/11/25 Full Review Chris B Boring and rubbish. This movie was not scary at all. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/06/25 Full Review John C I know 'slasher' films were - relatively - new back in 1980 and yet 'Terror Train' seems so outdated, it's like it's copied every cliche from the genre it possibly could. It's one of those 'who's the killer' type movies where the murderer is masked at all times to keep both the characters and audience guessing. This time the killing spree is taking place on - you guessed it - a train with a load of drunken partying teens. Perhaps the worst - or most annoying - thing the story does is have the killer just walk up to the soon-to-be victim and say nothing, therefore the victim just assumes the killer is just a friend in a mask and talks to them for longer than any normal person would before ultimately meeting their doom. It's a frustrating watch. I know we all yell at the screen from time to time in order to shout instructions to the idiots in the movie, but here everyone is just so dumb it's actually hard to watch. There's no real gore here and you won't care about any of the characters (the lead girl annoyed me from her constant screaming!) and by the time the killer is revealed, you've probably already checked out. If you like early eighties slasher films, the worst 'Friday 13th' entry is better than this. Otherwise any of the 'Scream' franchise is head and shoulders over this train wreck, Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/25 Full Review Audience M Terror Train is an atmospheric slasher that stands out for its unique setting, a moving train during a New Year's Eve costume party. Its eerie vibe is from the confined train cars that provide a claustrophobic backdrop that heightens the tension and gives the film a distinctive feel. Jamie Lee Curtis delivers a solid performance as the scream queen we know and love, bringing some depth to a fairly standard final girl role. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/01/25 Full Review Audience Member If you would of told me before I watched this that director Roger Spottiswoode who would down the road would direct Sly Stallone in Stop or My Mom Will Shoot I would of said omg this would be a banger of a horror movie. College prank gone wrong and now your on the Polar Express from hell. WTF magician David Copperfield in a horror movie playing a magician lol. Well it was good to see the scream queen legend Jamie Lee Curtis screaming like she did in The Fog and Halloween. This train went no where and shouldn't of left the station. 4/10 it was BAD and boring . Not one of the 80s horror movies I appreciate Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/09/24 Full Review Read all reviews
