Audience Member I caught this documentary on HBO. What a great film on Helen Thomas, the amazing political journalist. The film details Helen's modest upbringing to her fearless role as an outspoken White House journalist . The film chronicles her years of powerful journalism in the White House under the terms of 9 presidents. Sometimes feared by some of those presidents, Helen could always be found sitting in the front row at press conferences. Archival footage details her fearless determination and proves she would not be ignored or silenced when persuing relevant questioning that kept presidents accountable for their actions. Directed by RFK's daughter Rory, Helens story is well presented in this revealing documentary. Helen's personal insights on some of the most controversial issues that faced some of our U.S. Presidents are captivating. Her shoot from the hip no holes barred questioning helped define her as the "First Lady of the Press". A great documentary and well worth watching. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member A nice, quick chronicle of a journalist's life as a White House Press correspondent. It raises interesting questions, too, about how much of a "watchdog"--how critical--a journalist can be when consistently befriended by leaders...when given perks, when asked to speak to assembled journalists, when asked to sing, etc. While it appears that Helen Thomas has not weakened under such pressures, and remains as critical as ever of the political establishment, this is likely not the norm. How many journalists, sitting at White House press conferences day in and day out, develop relationships with the administration that negatively affect their ability to be critical? An interesting little documentary, but not nearly long enough to sufficiently tackle such questions. It remains just an "interesting little" profile of Helen Thomas. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member I love this woman. All the archival footage is fun, too. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member A fascinating peek - but that's all it is. A peek. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member An amazing biographic documentary on an amazing woman. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member An outstanding look at the life of an inspiring and pioneering figure. Thomas is a symbol of true integrity and courage and not just a false image (Bush) or empty boast (McCain). Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Read all reviews
