Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times The movie's fun from beginning to end. It's not camp, and it's not nostalgia: It's a celebration of a time and place in American movie history when everything came together to make a new art form. Rated: 4/4 Oct 23, 2004 Full Review James Berardinelli ReelViews It offers a no-muss, no-fuss opportunity to breeze through about 30 years of history in a little over 2 hours. And for those interested in the casual, behind-the-scenes perspective of the narration segments, there’s that as well. Rated: 3/4 Apr 26, 2024 Full Review 5th Freedom Staff 5th Freedom (Buffalo) Thanks to "That's Entertainment!" the legacy of MGM lives on for another generation. It captures totally the aura and spectrum of what the musical film was in its finest hour. May 3, 2023 Full Review Dick Lochte Los Angeles Free Press It actually lives up to the "It's more than a movie; it's a celebration" advertising tagline. Dec 13, 2019 Full Review Frank Swietek One Guy's Opinion Rated: 3/5 Jul 23, 2008 Full Review Steve Crum Video-Reviewmaster.com 'Boy, do we need it now' was catchphrase when this MGM musical salute was first released--and it stands even more today. Nick Z A master class in nostalgia done right, That's Entertainment! opens MGM's Ali Baba's cave of wonders and comes up with a joyous testament to the studio that once boasted more stars than there are in heaven. Featuring an mind-boggling assortment of musical moments, the likes of which remain unparalleled in their absolute perfectionism, That's Entertainment! celebrates the MGM musical as an artform unto itself. There's a spell-binding brilliance from first moment to last, and, an in-house style that just seems unfathomable. It's like observing magic from another planet. Permit us to worship. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/13/25 Full Review tbewin1 z This was a chore to get through. Song clips with no context at all and many of them boring 30s and 40s songs that modern day audiences will not connect with. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/18/24 Full Review Audience Member The premise of this semi-documentary is literally just the truism "they don't make ‘em like they used to"—and you know what, it's absolutely true. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review s r Another lost Flixster rating! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Proof positive that MGM were the only show in town when it came to great musicals, especially those produced by Arthur Freed. Here are two hours of unforgettable sequences, with sometimes poignant links by the likes of Astaire, Kelly, Sinatra etc from the MGM backlot. As time passes even these sections have become bitter-sweet. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review johnathon w Wonderful documentary celebrating the history of MGM musicals through it's classic numbers hosted by some of it's biggest stars. The narrators show the right mix of love & respect for Hollywood's Golden musical age, & even poke fun at themselves (Jimmy Stewart & Liz Taylor openly admit to their lack of musical talent, with the segments to prove it). The real star is the collection of brilliant musical pieces, from "The Wizard of Oz" to "Easter Holiday" to "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" & "Singing in the Rain", this is proof positive, as Frank Sinatra says, that no one made musicals better than MGM.
