Critics Consensus

The decision to turn this kiddie fantasy into a 3-D film was a miscalculation.

Empire Magazine Rated: 1/5 Aug 26, 2005 Full Review Philadelphia Inquirer Rated: 2/4 Jul 5, 2005 Full Review Richard Roeper Ebert & Roeper It's terrible 3-D. I think the story is terrible as well. Jun 13, 2005 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand The film’s naïve charm, filtered through Rodriguez’s big kid-in-a-candy-store filmmaking sensibility, engages on the level of childlike—and at times defiantly, delightfully childish—imagination. Audience Member This is one of my favorite movies. It's what got me obsessed with dreams. It's a really fun movie, it has a really good soundtrack, and it has some really good lines. Like "You thought you could escape fear by running away to dreamland. But fear exists in the one place you can never escape. your mind." and "Everything that is or was began with a dream." Sharkboy and Lavagirl is definitely over hated and underrated.
