Susan Walker Toronto Star How did writer/director Michael Mackenzie manage to mix all the ingredients for an absorbing historic drama -- an A-list cast, lavish set and costume design, a score by Philip Glass and a gorgeous chateau setting -- into a B-grade gothic melodrama? Rated: 3/5 Aug 13, 2004 Full Review Liam Lacey Globe and Mail The falseness at the film's core comes from the uncritical assumption that the present is wiser than the past. Audience Member A different style. Well acted with an interesting and unique plot. Good entertainment with a moral curve. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member The Baroness and the Pig is the reason I missed my 9:30pm bus and had to sit in South Station for TWO HOURS. This horrible dreck of a film stars Patricia Clarkson as a Baroness, who is a native of Philadelphia. Her husband (Colm Feore) is the uptight Baron. Once you hear the plot and the movie starts, you know EXACTLY where it's going. Action after action, everything... credit is due for the fact that the film looks lovely, as it was shot in High Definition. And to Caroline Dhavernas, who's meek 'Pig' Emily is the only shining light in this tired piece of crap. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member What a sweet looking cover, what an interesting looking style, what a dull as anything film. Someone should have written a plot and not just a setting for this film there is nothing to propel you forward it all just holds you back.
