Penelope Houston The Spectator But as he shouts and David Warner shivers, the splenetic confrontation seems to be between actors rather than valid characters. Jul 9, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Holm may have won the BAFTA, but it is Nicol Williamson's performance that stayed with me afterward. He is mesmerizing as a demonically driven, self-destructive gunner who seems to be as genuinely puzzled and inquisitive as to his own motives as the audience. Gold's direction is brisk, avoiding the stagey cliches of adaptation and Ian Holm is indeed good - although really in more of a supporting role.
