Ann Ross Maclean's Magazine One of those complicated mystery stories in which the evidence piles up so interestingly, and the deductions are so clear and clever, that you tend to forget the motive or even the nature of the crime. Sep 25, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Steve D Solid mystery with a great end. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/03/23 Full Review ashley h The Case of the Howling Dog is an okay film. It is about an agitated and desperate man who spares no expense in insisting that Mason represent him against a neighbor's howling dog and act as executor of his will. Warren William and Mary Astor give decent performances. The screenplay is a little slow in places. Alan Crosland did an alright job directing this movie. I liked this motion picture because of the drama. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member good murder mystery b movie stuff with lawyer perry mason but don't expect raymond burr Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member not too shabby a movie. It is the best of the Warner Brothers bunch. They slowly get goofier and goofier as they progress. Worth watching when it pops up on TCM. Be nice to have the four Warren William 'Perry Mason' movies in a DVD set. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member The first of six Perry Mason movies released by Warner Bros. Warren William plays the attorney with panache and is more restrained here than the character would become in latter entries. Mason's assistant Della Street is essayed by Helen Trenholme, a beautiful and talented actress who has good chemistry with William, but she inexplicably left the film business after making this and one other film in 1934. Mary Astor portrays a femme fatale years before perfecting the role in "The Maltese Falcon." The pacing suffers from some novel like exposition explaining the relationships and crimes. The script tries to stuff too much into the brisk 70 minute running time. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
