What to Know

Critics Consensus

While it may not be as (ahem) evolved as the best modern animated fare, The Croods will prove solidly entertaining for families seeking a fast-paced, funny cartoon adventure.

Bilge Ebiri New York Magazine/Vulture The Croods isn't particularly smart, but it has just enough wit to keep us engaged and just enough speed to keep us from feeling restless. Mar 24, 2013 Full Review Lisa Kennedy Denver Post It captures the wonder (and more gently, the anxiety) of discovery time and time again. And the filmmakers have a hoot playing with the Croods' encounters with, as well as their misunderstandings of, all things new. Rated: 3.5/4 Mar 22, 2013 Full Review Bob Mondello NPR As family viewing, it's pleasant enough: primitive, yes, but in a digitally sophisticated way that's boisterous, funny and will no doubt sell a lot of toys. Mar 22, 2013 Full Review James Croot The Post NZ Some of the action and humour might be a little crude, but this caveman comedy is guaranteed to elicit plenty of laughs from young and old. Rated: 4/5 Sep 1, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review No amount of chuckle-worthy voicework or pretty pictures can make up for how predictable it all feels. Rated: 2.5/4 Sep 12, 2022 Full Review Mark Jackson Epoch Times "The Croods" provides an extremely hopeful message of surviving into the future. Little ones won't get it intellectually, but will on a visceral level, while being thoroughly entertained by all manner of fun prehistoric flora and fauna. Juanita R CARLOS MORENO I really enjoyed The Croods because it’s a fun and heartwarming movie. The characters are unique and lovable, and I liked how the story shows the importance of family, change, and working together. It’s full of adventure, humor, and colorful animation that makes it perfect for all ages Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/15/25 Full Review Penguin O The Croods are, to put them in one word...crude. "They're practically animals", as Guy puts it, and I think he's truthfully right about the titular family and the film itself. It is a crude film. A lot of physical crudeness, such as shaking people to make fire (which doesn't work well) add to the idea of this film being, well...crude. But anyways, this film was pretty good. We have some good music by Silvestri, even if it's mostly copying the song 'Shine your way' in the end credits; some beautiful animation that is sometimes hyper-realistic (or almost); a pretty good plot; and of course the characters themselves, the Croods. Thunk is possibly the funniest of the cast, though Belt follows close behind. Eep is the rudest, especially to her father, until her personality changes and she sort of shows her respect for him by the end. Guy is...well...Guy, and Sandy is savage. Gran is the stereotypical Gran minus the part where she tries eating people, Ugga the somewhat frustrated mother, and Grug the overprotective father. So, we have quite a clash of personalities here. Perhaps, besides the stars scene, my favorite part is the ending, where Grug finally gets his idea, and flies to tomorrow. If you don't know what 'flying to tomorrow' means, then go watch the film. I recommend it, even if it's not perfect. "Dun dun dun…" Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/15/25 Full Review Mitch B One of the best Stone Age themed movies ever. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/12/25 Full Review PEKING D It's a fun and enjoyable animation. It's a family movie that you might like. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/05/25 Full Review Cooper M. This is just one of the greatest animated films of all times, I am 15 and have always loved this movie, it’s just iconic Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/05/25 Full Review Witty 2 An interesting movies and fun. 2watch Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/29/25 Full Review Read all reviews
