Audience Member The Deepening is reminiscent of your typical low budget, 80's slasher film, even though it was made barely 3 years ago. It's worth pointing out the unusual (and comical) note that the synopsis we are given is VERY different from the actual film. The synopsis talks about a firefighter (co-director Ted Alderman) suffering from post-traumatic stress because of the events of 9/11 who moves to a small town to ease himself, but begins to suffer terrible nightmares about people being killed by a firefighter slasher, only those nightmares start to come true. While this plotline is very true to the film, it is merely a secondary story to the REAL plot of the movie which focuses on actual lead (and co-director) Jim O'Rear who makes friends with Ted's character but begins entangled in town murders and is being blamed for them. It's up to him to clear his name before he too winds up dead. Genre icon Gunnar Hansen shows up as a Doctor, as well as Debbie Rochon as an old girlfriend of Jim's. All in all, this film was farily entertaining given the low budget quality to it. The real kicker and overall highlight to this film is Jim O'Rear. He completely steals this movie away and it becomes his. Far from being a leading man, he directs himself very humbly (note: sarcasm). In all actuality, Jim is made out to be a top notch leading man who has great sex scenes with FOUR different women (one of which was the very hot Rochon), all of whom show their big titties and such. Hot sex scenes too, LOL! Jim O'Rear's character in this film is the ultimate typecast, which made this film beyond enjoyable. Loved it. If you don't have a high tolerance for low budget films, please avoid this film because you'll only be an idiot and screw up the ratings system when you knew damn well you weren't going to like this film.
