Audience Member The pulp serial that makes up the bulk of the film is convoluted and crazy, even to an avid comic book reader like myself. However, this mediocre movie is fascinating for two reasons: Sessue Hayakawa and the way race is depicted in the film. Actors play characters of different ethnicities than their own, but do it all through wardrobe. No hokey, un-PC make-up! It's fascinating, especially because the ethnicities of the characters is totally irrelevant anyway. Watch it as a contrast to what Griffith was doing, but don't expect anything amazing.
