Lindsey M Jul 6 I think this movie can only potentially work for you if you were a child in the 80s that did not have access to cable TV. I am such a person, and love it. Not because it’s perfect- or even coherent. I like it because it’s weird, and it doesn’t stop being weird for one second. Leprechauns, gold dust, animals, a magical land not far from the woods in Canada, people turning into anthropomorphic butterflies, a basically unexplained huge moon-shaped/cratered creature that determines if you’re naughty or nice in his mouth…? There are long scenes, yet the familial issues are still half-baked… and they never explain the big questions, like- wtf is this moon doing as the ultimate arbiter of everything in the Great Land of Small? I was okay with it. See more 04/27/2008 Enigmatic Canadian fantasy for children has always been a favourite of mine. It's beautifully photographed and the score is lovely. The eerie Quebec atmosphere makes everything seem very surreal. See more Read all reviews
