jon c Truth be told I missed this when it premiered on Disney Channel 20 years ago and it actually reminds me of a similar film that came out 10 years later known as 'Project Nim' But where that one was a documentary this is a animal-buddy flick for the young ones Based on the book by Douglas Preston Alex D. Linz stars as 11-year old Andrew Archibald His father comes back from Africa rescuing a baby chimp from poachers after her mother died Jennie is her name and soon begins an inexplicable bond with Andrew's family They even begin teaching her sign language But is it more important to stay with the Archibalds or have Jennie relocated to further the communications research? The movie has its cutesy moments with the chimp but also the moral ethics of what to do about her Plus it brings the family even closer with the neglectful father reassessing his priorities with his job traveling constantly We see the world not only through our eyes but with our hearts That's what Jennie taught this family It's one of the shortest DCOMs out there but still gets the job done Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member On the surface this uneven film is about a boy and his pet chimpanzee who learns to communicate in sign language. While this aspect of the movie does offer a ton of heart and humor what's not utilized enough is the story underneath about family values being compromised and the emotional repercussions. And when this story starts to come to the forefront it all feels rushed and unearned Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member A decent DCOM about a family who adopts and develops a connection with a chimpanzee. It was cute, but also a little overemotional. (First and only full viewing - 7/30/2010) Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member very funny. but it was sad when they had to bring the chimp back to africa. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member i really like this movie !! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Je ne l'ai pas vu au complet car je me suis endormi... mais de ce que j'ai vu, ce n'etait pas tres bon. Un autre mauvais film de chimpanzes. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Read all reviews
