Steve D A mixed bag but more good than bad. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/13/23 Full Review s r Set in Hungary where Russia has sent in troops to quell the resistance, we have a group of foreigners stuck in an airport looking to leave but are sent to Austria where they are detained at the border. It then proceeds with a woman desperate to save her treasonous love who she will do anything to save. Fine acting and of course I am a sucker for anything Hungarian. The language, gypsy music, Russian drinking songs, border crossings, langos and stuffed cabbage made me enjoy it. It then culminates in ironic tragedy where even people who can be good can have it bad. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review ashley h The Journey is an amazing film. It is about a group of Westerners who try to leave the city when the the Soviets occupys the country of Hungary in 1956. Deborah Kerr and Yul Brynner give excellent performances. The screenplay is well written. Anatole Litvak did a great job directing this movie. I enjoyed watching this motion picture because of the drama and romance. The journey is a must see. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review dave j Tuesday, July 19, 2011 (1959) The Journey WAR/ HISTORICAL/ DRAMA Another depressing variation on the same lines as "The King & I" which involves a group of English speaking civilians attempting to escape after the Soviet invasion lead by Yul Brynner, which he falls in love with one of the captures played by Deborah Kerr! The film centers on this relationship and the political turmoil that intervenes! Hooky and unessessary, especially if it's all made up, more fascinating to be read about in terms of real life! 1.5 out of 4 Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Clyde Gilmour Maclean's Magazine Although it takes a rather vague and sentimentalized view of the clash of ideologies involved in the 1956 Hungarian uprising, some excellent acting performances and tightening suspense make this romantic drama well worth seeing. Nov 11, 2019 Full Review Isabel Quigly The Spectator A glimpse of what might be understanding of the present Soviet mentality and some of that supra-ideological commodity, the Russian charm.
