Based on a true story, this film follows Sergeant-Major Charles Coward (Dirk Bogarde), a brave British soldier captured by German forces during World War II. When he's thrown into a prisoner of war camp, he immediately plans his escape. Masquerading as a wounded German soldier, he makes it as far as the medical tent, where the deceived enemy forces award him the Iron Cross. Though he is ultimately discovered, he goes on to courageously pursue his freedom with a whimsical and undying audacity.

Audience Member For a film that was done on a low budget, I thoroughly enjoyed this. The realism must have been helped by the fact that Dirk Bogart was a real life veteran. The film was a real story (probably with the occasional embellishment). All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/14/24 Full Review Tony C Exceptionally poor film. The production values are laughable and it looks like it was made on a shoestring budget. The most laughable part is the British 1920s fire engine and Will Hay style uniforms they use to drive through the German lines. Just awful. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/28/24 Full Review Frances H Great flick about the ways British prisoners of war managed to run rings around the Germans, based on a real memoir and well acted by the great British actor, Dirk Bogarde. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/18/20 Full Review ashley h Password Is Courage is a decent film. It is about a British officer who escapes from the Stalag VIII-B POW camp. Dirk Bogarde and Alfred Lynch give good performances. The screenplay is a little slow in places. Andrew L. Stone did an alright job directing this movie. I liked this motion picture because of the drama.
