Ella H. McCormick Detroit Free Press Mr. Tracy's gifts for dramatic work, such as he did in the legitimate theater before he began his picture career, are stressed in the role of Garner which he encompasses with splendid effect. May 13, 2021 Full Review Robert Randol Fort Worth Star-Telegram/DFW.com The picture is much better than the average and contains a number of scenes of intense dramatic appeal. May 13, 2021 Full Review Marjory Adams Boston Globe The part is difficult -- almost thankless -- but Tracy is excellent whether he is playing a lovesick boy of 20, an ambitious husband of 30 or a hard and successful business man of 50. May 13, 2021 Full Review Eleanor Barnes Illustrated Daily News (Los Angeles) The Power and the Glory is one of the great pictures of the talkie era. Dec 17, 2021 Full Review Francisco J. Ariza Cine-Mundial Apart from its value as a well-directed, well-presented and well-filmed photodrama, photographed, "The Power and the Glory" has the additional appeal of offering something different when it comes to cinematographic continuity. [Full review in Spanish] May 13, 2021 Full Review Edward Cushing Brooklyn Daily Eagle If the producers of The Power and the Glory has been less concerned to exploit a questionable technical novelty they might have made, of the material provided by Mr. Sturges, a fairly interesting drama. david f I watched this because it was compared to Citizen Kane but this is really a much more old-fashioned film about a corporate tyrant. It seemed so cinematically primitive as to almost be in the category of a silent film. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A series of "firsts" (first screenplay by Preston Sturges, first starring role for Spencer Tracy) and a fine performance by silent star Colleen Moore make this a must-see, if only for the film's historical importance. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Good performances but a rushed narrative. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review alex k My Favorite Film Is 1941's Citizen Kane. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member tracy's performance really makes this pic worth seeing Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Pre-cursor to Citizen Kane: non-linear narrative told in flashback about a wealthy magnate, and there's even a mystery ala Rosebud. Quite well done and surprisingly advanced for 1933, the only weakness is that Willam K. Howard's direction is completely underwheming.
