Audience Member Bewildering, unfocused mess is ninety minutes that feel like an eternity. Jolson treads water by singing many of his old hits, and what little story there is feels like random script pages heavily padded with cut numbers from completely different musicals. As far as I could tell: Famous entertainer loses his voice, goes to the country with his gagwriters to recuperate, finds love (and success again). If there weren't so many scenes involving blackface, it'd be ideal Mystery Science Theater 3000 fodder.
