Audience Member A terrible, low-budget effort on every level. Pure amateur stuff shot with a cheap handheld camera, replete with the kind of extreme overacting that can only come from those who've never tried it before. This is so low-budget, in fact, that it's apparent it was shot entirely in and around someone's house, decorated according to a Jeff Foxworthy "you might be a redneck" routine. Nobody in this dreck can act, I'm not sure there really was a director, and the dialogue verges FAR into the hinterlands of I-can't-believe-he-said-that territory (e.g., a scientist explaining how hypnosis isn't scientific just after using her psychic ability to read someone's mind). To make matters worse, gaps in memories during flashbacks are represented using TV static. Since more than half the film is flashback, watching The Stragglers is a lot like trying to watch an analog TV while someone else chznnel surfs. No exaggeration; The Stragglers might be one of the worst movies you will ever see. It's not a movie, in fact, so much as a series of often disjointed images and incoherent sounds. All this, and yet I think some people should see it. Why? Genetically engineered psychic ladybugs are trying to take over the world, starting with a small, yokel-infested county in north Georgia. Yep, you read that right. If you've been waiting for someone to come out with a flick about world-dominating, intelligent, evil ladybugs who use their psychic powers to destroy mankind in Georgia, this is as good as it gets. So bad, it's funny. Grab some cheap beer and a can of bug spray and check it out... IF YOU DARE (to sit through 85 minutes of pure awful!)
