I believe that the unexpected charm of certain scenes comes from what one can call 'The Hollywood Machine'. It is very worn out and often goes wrong nowadays, but it can still deliver the goods. Which it does here. Go to Full Review

Joseph B Jul 23 Interesting and entertaining film. Much better than the dreck presently being produced. We cared about these characters but could give a sh*t about the "superhero" characters dominating the useless nonsense being offered today. And, at the end, we did not feel like slitting our wrists. On the contrary. The cast was excellent, especially a young Joan Collins. Even Jayne Mansfield did a credible job. See more Mike W Jul 13 I loved the movie and each of the actors, including Rick Jason. Why is he not in the credits listed here? All movie fans should watch it. See more Alain E @AlainE Jul 8 A fantastic melodrama based on a John Steinbeck story. Nicely restored black and white image. Very good acting. In my eyes, Joan Collins is more attractive, but over the years Jayne Mansfield overtook her in the hotness sweepstakes. Instead of a car chase we have an attempted bus chase, that proves to be totally unnecessary. We know two characters had sex because the girl lost an earring inside a barn! Points for originality. And a piece of wisdom: “How come you never married?” “The right guys had the wrong ideas”. See more Deb 08/06/2024 Noir at its best. So many good actors. See more j F 08/04/2024 A tight story line from Steinbeck that examines people's actions under stress. Nice! See more nick s @Nick_S 06/28/2024 Very much a relationship focused movie following the arcs of multiple characters. So no intrigue or mystery. Actually a bit dull for film. But the acting was believable and the bus sequences were good. I particularly liked the bus interior shots which I imagine were done in studio. See more Read all reviews
